The Humane Society International made a rescue for the ages when they made a trip to a dog meat farm in South Korea in January, 2015.
These dogs lived in tiny cages with a sad fate awaiting them.

The dogs were being bred for their meat at a farm in Islan, South Korea, where an estimated 1 to 2 million dogs are consumed annually.

Three dogs were kept in each cage, exposed to the South Korean winter temperatures. They were normally killed before their first birthday.

They were never handled by people, staying in the cages their entire (and short) lives.

The Humane Society International made a deal to buy the dogs from the farm’s owner, who was willing to close it down and start blueberry farming.

A total of 23 dogs would be saved and make the trip to the United States.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
They were ready to start their new lives.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
It’s almost as if the puppies knew the rescuers were there to save them.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
The puppies showed great appreciation.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
It was time to break free from the cages.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
…And into a better type of cage — one that will transport them to amazing new lives.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
A quick hug before leaving.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
Time to load them up!
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
It wouldn’t be long until they were put on a plane heading for the United States.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
Here are the dogs at the airport. They’re getting closer…
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
Have no fear, pup. This cage is just temporary.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
Time to board.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
The rescuers wanted one last hug before takeoff.
Manchul Kim / AP Images for Humane Society International
The precious cargo touched down at Washington Dulles International Airport.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
The pups were tired from a long flight.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
…But not too tired for human interaction.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
It was a very long process, but well worth the time and effort.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
This was the first time the dogs felt love and comfort from humans.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
They’re in a much, much better place now.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
The puppies were then loaded up to be taken to a shelter where they would be looked at.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
They will examine any problems that the dogs may have.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
Hopefully, every dog will then find a forever home.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
Time to explore the new area.
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
…And receive some yummy treats!
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
And there’s plenty of love to go around!
Kevin Wolf / AP Images for Humane Society International
Let’s be friends. 🙂

Welcome to your new life!
