Elderly Woman Sees Coyote Pup Stuck In A Cactus, Jumps Into Action To Help Him…
When 86-year-old Arizona resident Gwen Maxwell looked out into her backyard, she spotted a coyote pup rolling on the ground in pain. The poor baby was trying to remove several cholla cactus spines embedded in his skin.
Pebblebrook Golf Course, employee Jose Soto, and assistant Superintendent Shawn Bordine arrived shortly after. When they arrived, they noticed his mother was just a few feet away. That is when they realized what she the mother was doing.
When they saw the pup’s mother, instead of protecting her pup from the men, she seemed too eager for them to help. They immediately pulled out a pair of pliers and did just that.
“As Jose held him, I was able to pull stickers out of his mouth,” Shawn said. “He didn’t bite or make a sound.” Throughout the process, the mother coyote kept a watchful eye on her pup. “She knew what was going on,” Gwen recalled. “They were trying to save her baby.”
Once all of the spines were removed, Shawn, Gwen, and Jose examined the pup to make sure he was okay. Other than a few scrapes and cuts, he seemed to be in good shape. Once they placed him on the ground, he ran straight to his mom.
Although Moms are protective, they are also famous for their intuition. This coyote mom was no different!
